Raised just outside of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Loren grew up hoping to become the next Gordon Korman. She wasn’t particularly funny, which quickly became a serious problem. Then she dreamed of being an exchange student in Japan and using her newfound fluency to consume comic books by the boatload. That plan didn’t work out, either.
Instead, she went off to teach English in Osaka, and has been writing about Japan ever since.
Loren is now the author of coming of age novels Meet You By Hachiko and Edokko, both part of the Sakura+Maple series of young adult books with a Japan focus, and is currently planning a fantasy web series which will be available on Royal Road in June 2021.
Her short story work has been featured in Write For Tohoku and won the Kit Sora Flash Fiction Photography contest.
Though officially located in Toronto, Loren divides her time between there and St. John’s, and is available for events in both provinces.
